What is C15:0?

C15:0 is a naturally occurring odd-chain saturated fatty acid composed of 15 carbon atoms. Unlike more common even-chain saturated fats, odd-chain fatty acids such as C15:0 are present in limited quantities in the modern diet.

In nature, C15:0 is primarily derived from whole-fat dairy products and certain marine sources.

Within biological systems, it is incorporated into cell membranes and other lipid structures, where it contributes to membrane stability and normal cellular function.
